Elisabeth — The Hit Musical

ELISABETH The Musical opened in September 1992 at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna, Austria. Since then, not one day has gone by without at least one performance of this masterpiece drama musical — somewhere on Earth.

ELISABETH, by Michael Kunze (libretto and lyrics) and Sylvester Levay (music), is the most successful German-language musical ever, with gross receipts surpassing by far even the greatest film productions in the history of the European entertainment industry.

Musical Elisabeth

The Musical Elisabeth

In this historically-accurate yet timeless tale of a courageous woman’s fight against the cruel restrictions of life at the Viennese Court, we witness Elisabeth’s transformation from suicidal weakness to immense power and influence.

Her initial love affair with death gives way to new self-confidence and lust for life with no boundaries. Europe lays at the feet of the most beautiful Empress of Austria and Hungary.

But Death is not one to concede defeat, easily!

Elisabeth’s resistance to the demons of her past is put to a number of severe tests, and only her tremendous inner strength can guide her through the turmoils of her public and private lives.

Will Death prevail?

As the record numbers of return visitors show, Elisabeth’s story captures the hearts of its rapidly-growing international fan community, over and over and over again.
